by starvin_marvin on Aug.05, 2008, under FYI, Fun & Play!!, Random, Singapore & Singaporeans

Hey guys It’s national day this coming Saturday and I have this crazy idea for all Singapore bloggers out there; lets unite and fly our national fly high and proud on our blog for the month of august just like what we always do. Okay I mean virtually. Well since I don’t use much of my bandwidth I shall share that with every one by hosting the pic. Muhaha. Embed your flag by pasting the following code on your blog.

Well for those that don’t know the national flag symbolize, here it is:
The national flag is Singapore’s most visible symbol of statehood, symbolising our sovereignty, pride and honour. It reflects the ideals, beliefs and values that we stand by as a nation amidst our rich and diverse make-up. It forms a crucial element of our national identity. As such, the national flag is to be treated with dignity and honour.

Its Origin
The national flag was unveiled on 3 December 1959, together with the state crest and the national anthem, at the installation of the new Head of State, the Yang di-Pertuan Negara. It was created by a Committee led by then Deputy Prime Minister, Dr Toh Chin Chye. It replaced the Union Jack, which had flown over Singapore for 140 years (1819-1959). Upon Singapore’s independence in 1965, it was adopted as Singapore’s national flag.

Its Meaning
The flag consists of two equal horizontal sections, red above white. In the upper left section are a white crescent moon, and five white stars forming a circle. Each feature of the flag has its own distinctive meaning and significance. Red symbolizes universal brotherhood and equality of man. White signifies pervading and everlasting purity and virtue. The crescent moon represents a young nation on the ascendant. The five stars stand for the nation’s ideals of democracy, peace, progress, justice and equality.

Felt so freaking bored last night that I had to go cycling alone!! I felt that I had to bring my beloved photography set along, those babies are freaking heavy lugging on my shoulder throughout the entire journey (Kembangan – Kallang). My, was I right in deciding to bring them along. Manage to capture these lovely shots below under the Sheares Bridge.

What do you think?

Saw this on service No. 74 while going home with Robert today. it wrote “Our bus captain have the rights to work in a safe environment like anyone else” haha must be due to the recent attacks on bus captain by passengers. I think that some bus drivers are innocent and are just doing their job and dun deserve this, while on the other hand some might deserve this(u noe wad i mean). enough said. Period!
